The Council of the Chartered College of Teaching plays a significant role in guarding the vision, setting the strategy and long-term direction of the Chartered College, and evaluating performance against targets. They also support the Chartered College’s Executive Leadership Team. The Council comprises:
  • The Council Chair (elected)
  • Treasurer (elected)
  • Vice President (external, elected)
  • Vice President (internal, elected)
  • Up to 18 elected Council members
  • Up to five appointed Council members

In the 2020 elections there are six elected Council member positions open for election. Please use your vote to help elect an effective Council of the Chartered College of Teaching.

Am I eligible to vote in the Chartered College of Teaching Council elections and if so how many votes will I have?

All full Members and Fellows are able to vote in the elections (this includes members who pay the NQT subscription rate). Student Members and Affiliates are not able to vote. Why can't Affiliates and Student Members vote in the election?

Bye law 2 (ii) of the Chartered College of Teaching refers to the non-voting individual supporters of the College, including Associates and Affiliates. The Membership Handbook states that ‘Affiliates, Students and Associates are non-voting members of the Chartered College.’ This includes Historical Affiliates.

How can I vote?

UK Engage has been appointed to run the election process on behalf of the Chartered College of Teaching. All votes will be cast online through this website on the electronic voting page. There will be no postal voting.

The online poll opens at 09:00 on Thursday 8th October 2020 and will close at 17:00 on Monday 2nd November 2020. Before voting, please read the candidate statements for each contest. Please note that, once submitted, votes cannot be amended.

Why am I unable to submit a postal vote?

It is the Chartered College’s policy to minimise spending whenever possible, and the costs of printing and postage are significant. Using a secure website for the elections enhances the security and reliability of the election process.

I’ve just joined the Chartered College as a member – when will I receive my email?

The Chartered College will send UK Engage details of new members in batches up until 26th October 2020 and so the deadline for new members to join and be able to vote is 08:00 on Monday 26th October. You will receive the email from UK Engage with your Unique Security Code as soon as UK Engage receives this information. Members who join after this point will not be able to vote in the 2020 election.

How do the votes determine the winners?

The voting method used in the election of the Council of the Chartered College of Teaching is Single Transferable Vote (STV).

What happens if a post is uncontested?

If there are fewer candidates than positions available, then the Returning Officer will declare at the AGM that the candidates are elected.

What if I don’t want to vote for any candidates?

Voters have the option to actively abstain from voting.

For how long will elected Council members hold office?

All elected Council Members in the 2020 election will hold office for a term of three years.
